I was a bit too late for the very best season of beautiful momiji and other autumn colors in the mountains and the gardens, but still the temples in Kyoto look gorgeous whichever season you visit.

Kiyomizu temple is quite well-known for its *veranda*.

The main hall has a large veranda, supported by tall pillars, that juts out over the hillside and offers impressive views of the city. Large verandas and main halls were constructed at many popular sites during the Edo period to accommodate large numbers of pilgrims.(wiki)
